The very intimate affair at the Wynn House could not have been more beautiful, and neither could Heather!

Heather chose icy winter whites with textural touches. Mayumi's creation for Heather's wedding included soft garden roses, berries and succulents. Tall white branches and sparkling accents graced the arrangements. So elegant, so simple....and the overall effect was completely remarkable!

Enjoy!

Don't you just love the girl's dresses? There were some hard choices, but we've got it narrowed down to our top ten. We know you are over the moon about it! We are, too; and we also know that you're ready to get that wedding planned ASAP! And by ASAP, you mean planned by next Tuesday. We get it, we really do. So, we thought we'd put together a little list for you, the newly engaged bride, to help you get started.

Gather Ideas- Mayumi has what she calls Inspiration Boards. This is where she puts ideas and collections together as a visual starting point. A visual starting point is simply a gathering of your ideas and things that catch your eye. It doesn't have to be perfect, or even be realistic. It just gets your mind going in a to a place that, hopefully, makes your heart start singing. Some are old-school magazine clippings and photos; but since this is the modern age, she also has a Pinterest page with several sets of Inspiration Boards denoted to season, color, and even one that is an eclectic mix. You can follow her Pinterest boards at www.pinterest.com/designsbymayumi. You'll learn a great deal about yourself and what you truly enjoy versus whatever trend is going around at the time. Speaking of trends...

Trends- We love a good trend, don't get us wrong, but we want you to be true to yourself. We also don't want your wedding photos to be dated in a few years. So, ladies, we recommend exposing yourself to all kinds of design ideas and feel what resonates with you before consigning yourself to a trend as an entire theme. What's an expression of you? The more you explore, the more you will know.

Establish a Budget- This is not the most fun part, but it is the most important. Budgets are where many decisions get made, and that's not a bad thing. Vendors can work within a reasonable budget very well. As businesspeople, we do this daily. We'd never want you to spend outside of your budget and look back on your special day with regret. So having a very real conversation about your budget with your family (if they are helping finance your wedding) and your future spouse, gives us the parameters to make your wedding come to life.

So there you have it; a few items to jump-start your wedding brainstorming session! It takes an adventurous spirit to leave your birthplace behind and embark on a new life in a country very different from your own. However, there's always a place in your heart that never truly leaves. You carry that little piece of home with you in your heart across the miles of oceans, mountains and rivers. In the trying times, you retreat back to it, even for just a few solitary moments. In a world that is ever-changing, and growing both larger and smaller at the same time, the word "home" takes on a new meaning.
For this week, Mayumi is in that place called home. She's with her family and childhood friends, walking on the streets she knows by heart. She's seeing how everything and nothing has changed all at the same time. She's in constant contact with both worlds at once. Mayumi will come back with her bags full of gifts and wonders from Japan, and her

heart filled to the brim with the wonderful times she's had. Her creative mind will be racing with new ideas and a fresh outlook on design.

Until then, we wish you and yours the best during this holiday season. May you be surrounded by warmth, love and joy!

Blessings to you all!

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03059419627406621551noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2829753327328301046.post-80633905699094769552014-11-03T14:25:00.000-08:002014-11-03T14:25:03.461-08:00Traditional Winter Weddings

I love holiday weddings! I think that it's because we are already full of the holiday spirit, but winter weddings are always full of warmth and romance to me. (It could be the candlelight, too. Just saying!)

All jokes aside, winter weddings are special to me. I love the new rustic trends that use a plethora of mason jars and tress branches grouped together. I love the icy blue and crisp whites that we saw all over the runways this season. But I might, just might, be partial to the traditional red rose on deep winter greens.

But while I'm looking back in my mind over all the winter weddings, I also remember a particularly stunning affair with red roses and white orchids. Tall candelabras filled the room with the soft glow of candlelight... oh, it was stunning!

However, there is still a very, very exquisite beauty in the simplicity of winter white. Gathered white roses with bouquet pins, hydrangeas like snow drifts, or stately white peonies; there's so many forms to choose!

Mayumi has a theory that art inspires art. For Mayumi, art inspires her own creativity in her chosen medium - flowers. At least a few times a year, Mayumi will travel to museums and theaters to experience the work of other artists firsthand. Paintings, dance performances, visual arts...it doesn't matter; Mayumi is there to be inspired by another artist's vision. She finds it therapeutic to remove herself from her daily routine, and even from her own handiwork to break herself out of a pattern. While we all love repetition and routine, it is the change in that routine that inspires us to our greater good. We all find comfort in our patterns, but they hold us to form. So it is always advisable according to Mayumi to set out for a small adventure, to remind us of what the world has to offer.

It is when we step out into the larger world and into a sensory experience that we begin to open our minds to other's perceptions of the world. We begin to see a view that is processed and translated into an expression and understanding, with an undercurrent of oneness that courses through human existence. Mayumi says we take it back with us in the memories of it, and there we draw on that experience and let it enrich our lives. From that expression, another is born into existence, and another, and another...and the cycle begins again.
Art inspires art, creativity inspires people, and people inspire each other. Let us all be an inspiration to one another!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03059419627406621551noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2829753327328301046.post-17517342423958554372014-10-14T10:21:00.004-07:002014-10-14T10:21:51.959-07:00When is it enough?

This will be an unusual blog post, especially coming from a woman who has built a career in the wedding industry. I've seen the most lavish weddings, and I've seen the most humble; and I've designed them both. Being a creative person driven by a love of beauty in all things, I can see the miracles in the natural world that play about before us. I see the symmetry of an orchid, the majesty of a peony in full bloom, and the perfection of a poppy growing in a field.

In my daily life, I stop to acknowledge these things. I let them wash over me and replenish my spirit. I am reminded of the oneness of this world, and of the greatness and the smallness of all things. I do this because I am no stranger to becoming overwhelmed with modern society. Televisions, phones, traffic, the internet..even pop-up ads are draining to me. So much of day-to-day living has become so complicated that it seems like it takes an entire staff to manage it all. But where I see it the most is in the eyes of some of my clients.

The wedding industry has always been known for opulence in all things, but recently it's taken a turn down an even darker path. Weddings have now become a theatrical event, complete with overarching themes (as if marriage itself wasn't enough...) and sometimes captive audiences. Magazines, TV shows, and social media sites have really put the pressure on brides to go above and beyond what weddings even 10 years ago would have ever done.

Ladies, let me just say this one thing to you: You are already perfect. Just the way you are, no matching napkins to aisle runners necessary. Your wedding is a celebration of a commitment to a life partner that will walk with you through the rest of your lives together. That's it. It's not about throwing a 300 person party. It's not about emulating the latest trendy thing going on right now. It's about you making a public pledge to love your spouse through the best of times, and through the worst.

So when you're planning your wedding and you start to feel frazzled and hassled, take a step back and breathe. Remember what brought you to this point and don't be afraid to keep the word "enough" at the top of your mind. What makes the most beautiful weddings are the ones where love takes center stage. Love in it's purest, simple form. And that is enough. The rest will fall perfectly into place.

She's got a fun and spunky personality, so it's not wonder that her wedding at Lake Pines Event Center was anything less than awesome! She chose a rustic, vintage-inspired theme in beautiful late summer tones and textures. She infused her wedding with the funky and off-beat, along with some personal details that truly made it an event to remember. Dylan chose a loose, natural bouquet with Campanella roses, anemones, and wax flowers that fit perfectly with her ivory lace dress. Birds on a Wire Photography captured the event and Dylan's personal style perfectly! So, let us not stand upon ceremony. Here's Dylan's wedding photos, compliments of Birds on a Wire Photography!
Each year, rose breeders introduce us to new varieties specifically grown for floristry use. One of our favorites for this year has been the hugely popular Campanella rose. The Campenella rose is a large, (sometimes 4 to 5 inches in diameter!) ruffled peach garden rose. It is sometimes mistaken for a peony, due to it's unusual size.

Campenella roses are rare, and not readily available on the wider market. We consider it a specialty rose that is used only in bridal bouquets and sparingly in cake decorations. Garden roses are generally 4 to 5 times more expensive than standard hybrid tea roses, which is also why we reserve them for bridal pieces. We love the way they punctuate a vintage-inspired bridal bouquet. We also love them as a single bloom bouquet, reminiscent of a 18th century taffeta ballgown.

If you're following the latest trends in weddings for Autumn and Winter 2014, you'll see that this variety pairs well with the rose gold themes seen on the runways and bridal expos for the season. We also favor it for winter's peach and mint color schemes, and alongside other showy florals such as anemones and ranunculus.

1. Know Your Colors

This
should be one of the first decisions you make when planning your
wedding. Everything from bridesmaid's dresses to invitations will center
around your color theme, so having a clear color scheme or combination
in mind is very important. A few extra sets of swatches
on hand to take with you to vendor meetings would be a great way to
prevent variances on the same color from happening. A wedding coordinator can help you choose a coordinating color palette based on your
principle color that can be woven through the overall design. Keeping
the color combinations in the same tone, but in varying layer and
textures, photographs well and adds a full dimensional look to
tablescapes.

2. Understand Your Budget

Garden roses are more expensive
than hybrid roses, and antique hydrangeas are much more expensive than hybrid
hydrangeas. When we design your wedding, we want it to look as close to
the vision you have in mind as possible. There are many wonderful
ways to stay within a budget, such as choosing flowers that are in
season, and choosing common varieties instead of exotics. You can also
alternate rented candelabras with floral centerpieces instead of
matching centerpieces on every table. There are two places, however,
that you should never cut corners - your bridal bouquet and the center
arrangement at the wedding site. Your bridal bouquet is in every picture
and will be front and center in your hands the entire day. The center
arrangement at the wedding site will have your guests full attention
until the bridal party comes down the aisle. There are many options
available that will fit most any budget.

3. Know Exact Quantities

While we often order a
little extra, we can't always plan on having enough to make an extra
bouquet. We know that sometimes unforeseen events do happen, and we can
usually make arrangements to have an extra boutinnere or extra corsage
for a special guest that was able to attend your wedding at the last
minute. Adding six extra centerpieces...not so much. If you need more
items, the sooner we know, the better we can accommodate you. Check your
invoice from us three weeks before the wedding, just to make sure the
quantities are still correct.

4. Understand the Trends

We love a good trend, but overdoing a trend can
easily result in a dated-looking wedding album a few years from now.
Just because it's popular, doesn't mean it's meant for you. Your wedding
needs to be an accurate reflection of your personality. Now if you're a
big city girl with a modern style, having your wedding in a rustic barn
because that's what's in all the bridal magazines right now may not make much sense. Choose a trend and use it subtly throughout the
wedding. You are supposed to be the center of attention, not the latest
trends.

5. Know The Other Vendors

Your wedding is the biggest
party that you will probably ever plan. It takes a great deal of
coordination to pull off a 300 person event. Your wedding site will need
to be set up before your photographer can take pictures, your
tableclothes must be on the tables before we can set up the reception,
and so on. A quick call to the other venders can avoid any delays in
your wedding day schedule. We love to work together because that saves
us all time and money, and it saves you a lot of stress. The last thing
you need to do on your wedding day is direct traffic, so let us know who
the major players in your wedding will be so we can coordinate our
efforts with them.
Many people have never had the opportunity to stroll down the aisles of the flower market stalls in a big city. Well, there's really not enough words to describe it, so we're not going to try. We're just going to give you a visual overview and let the words come to you!

We are now in the Summer 2014 Wedding Season! We've just wrapped an enormously popular and successful Spring 2014 Wedding Season, and although we might be a little crazy from being so busy, we look back on it as one of our favorite seasons ever.

The spring trends were soft natural pinks and neutrals with big, blousey peony blooms and fresh, garden roses. This was a direct inspiration from the immensely popular series "Downton Abby". It features long, elaborate estate tables that look as if they came straight from the Edwardian Era. Bouquets were in similar fashion, taking on a loose, English garden look.

We enjoyed it so much we rather hate to see it go, even though it looks like it will stick around through the winter season. From what we see on the runways, the fuller and looser bouquets will stay strong. However the color schemes will grow bolder during Summer, and burnish during the Autumn. Color schemes will cool in the winter to neutrals and mint infused tones, with the addition of heavy winter textures. We really love the winter branches in conjunction with large blooms and succulents. It's still an elegant and timeless look, but it has modern elements that really bring it out onto the forefront of design.

But let's not get too far ahead of ourselves and forget to take in the beauty before us, which is Summer Season! The garden-type variety flowers are still the most popular, with an overall loose, cottage construction. Even common zinnias and marigolds have been given a place right next to power-house garden roses and anemones. However, trends are a funny thing and sometimes the polar opposite twin of the current trend grabs the spotlight for a season. In this case it's the monochromatic bouquet. It's still full and loose, but it's comprised of all one color, and mostly one type of flower.

It's a great look on beach weddings with bright tropical flowers, but it translates easy to an uptown affair. Casablanca lilies are an excellent choice, as well as the smaller, bright colored Asiatic lilies. Deep, fuchsia or salmon colored peonies are stunning and dimensional. Let's not forget every one's favorite summer flower, the sunflower! Done much in the same manner, we're seeing them bunched loosely with ribbons and and all the same bloom variety. Many brides are seeking out the new, colorful variegated varieties in a rainbow of shades from pale peach to nearly black.

Autumn season will bring more textures leafy greens, and deeper jewels tones. Focus will shift from masses of flowers to larger sized blooms and large textural leaves, such as lamb's ear and dusty miller. Penny cress and autumn berries will make their way into even the most formal designs, and estate tables will be lined with natural elements instead of pastel glassware. Rustic themes get a little more elaborate and larger than last year's mason jars can accommodate. Table arrangements go up and over the head like a traditional candelabra, but with moss wrapped bases and wooden containers. Bouquets will start to get a little less symmetrical, allowing the elements to unfold naturally into an overall design.

We're certainly looking forward to the rest of 2014. There are a few more openings in the calendar for late November and December, which we feel is the most romantic of all the wedding seasons! Mayumi offers a complimentary design session to get your started on your event. You can reach her at (706) 587-1100. We can't wait to hear from you!
